Mighty Matriarch

$65.00$2,245.00

There’s something magical about the quiet hours when the sun sinks behind the horizons of the Ethiopian landscape. On this particular evening in the Abore village, that magic found me. It was the end of a long day, the air was thick with the smoke of lit fires, and the rhythm of village life was lulling to a slow tempo.

Among this normalcy, a figure walking off in the distance caught my attention. She was just getting home, her arms filled with her young son and her back bearing the weight of a day’s hard work. Wood for fire, sorghum for sustenance, and a machete, a clear symbol of her relentless daily efforts. Yet, amid this burden and hustle, she managed to cradle her son tenderly and almost effortlessly. I couldn’t help but be in awe.

This isn’t just a photograph to me. It’s a snapshot of the strength, resilience, and profound love that women all around the world share. It’s a reminder that no matter where we’re from or what life we lead, at the heart of it, we’re all just people living, loving, and doing our best.

Description

Her every step seemed measured, an act of balance between her load and her son. I felt a sudden realization: she wasn’t merely carrying wood or food; she was bearing the weight of her family’s life on her shoulders, with the love for her son fueling her strength. And even in the face of this heavy duty, she didn’t falter; instead, her smile was pure and heartfelt, the love for her son clear in her eyes.

Abore women are no strangers to hard work. They’re the backbone of the household, doing most of the chores and looking after the kids. This woman was no different, her day likely filled with tasks as heavy as the load she carried. Yet, her strength was astounding. Despite the day’s labor and the load on her back, she had the capacity for a tender moment, for a loving smile at her son.

This isn’t just a photograph to me. It’s a snapshot of the strength, resilience, and profound love that women all around the world share. It’s a reminder that no matter where we’re from or what life we lead, at the heart of it, we’re all just people living, loving, and doing our best.

See the light, be the light; Shine, and the whole world ignites.

Through my storytelling, I hope to inspire others to lean into the light, to see it in themselves and others. To be the light that reveals the beauty that thrives even in the toughest circumstances, and the harsh truths that need to be seen. For when we do, the world becomes brighter, more compassionate, and more vibrant.
