Capturing this photograph was an adventure from start to finish. We spent a full day trekking over rough terrain to reach the Suri tribe. There was real risk along the way, we traveled with armed guards, and other visitors had been robbed at gunpoint nearby. That alone could fill a story. Still, every challenge was worth it. Meeting the people, watching the evenings settle over the river, and bathing under the fading light made it an experience I won’t forget.
The Queen’s Heart shows two young Suri boys, full of energy and life. Their painted faces and the blanket around them reflect their culture and traditions, and even in their youth, you can see the beginnings of the leaders they are becoming.
